Choosing Your Stay

Pongara, Loango, or both?

Pongara or Loango?

Pongara Lodge is less than two hours from Libreville, between savannah, forest and beach — perfect for a weekend, a honeymoon or a corporate retreat. Loango takes a full day to reach, and the reward is worth it: three camps, deep forest, lagoons and the gorilla trail. Can't decide? Our 11-day itinerary takes in both.

How many days should I plan?

Two or three nights is enough for Pongara. For Loango, allow at least four nights: travel takes a full day each way, and the park reveals itself better when you move from one camp to another.

When is the best time to visit?

Gabon can be visited year-round. The dry season, from May to September, makes wildlife easier to spot; it's also when humpback whales pass offshore at Loango, from mid-July to mid-September. The rainy season, from October to April, brings lush greenery and more birds, and it's sea turtle season on the beaches of Pongara, peaking from December to March. Write to us to align your dates.

Are children welcome?

Yes. Our camps welcome families, and our guides adapt activities to the age of the children. Some activities have a minimum age for safety reasons — we will specify this at the time of booking.

Getting to Gabon

Entry requirements, health, and transfers.

Do I need a visa?

Unless your nationality is exempt, yes. Apply online at the eVisa platform of the Direction générale de la documentation et de l'immigration (evisa.dgdi.ga). Apply as soon as your dates are confirmed. Your passport must be valid for more than six months.

Which vaccinations are required?

A yellow fever vaccination certificate is compulsory and is checked on arrival. Get vaccinated at an approved centre at least ten days before departure. Malaria is present year-round: a doctor or travel medicine centre will advise on the appropriate preventive treatment and any other recommended vaccinations for your trip.

Is travel insurance required?

Yes, and it must cover medical expenses and repatriation. Our camps are far from hospitals: your insurance is what organises an evacuation if needed.

How do I get to Pongara Lodge?

From Libreville, a boat takes you 15 to 20 minutes from the Michel Marine marina to Pointe Denis, then an hour on a forest track brings you to the lodge. Under two hours in total. To save time, a helicopter transfer can be arranged.

How do I get to Loango?

A 35-minute flight connects Libreville to Port-Gentil. Then approximately three hours by road, partly on dirt track, followed by a fifteen-minute boat ride across the Iguéla lagoon to N'dola. We organise every transfer, from the airport to the camp.

Where should I stay in Libreville?

At the Hôtel de la Sablière, our boutique hotel, 5 to 10 minutes from the airport depending on traffic. It is the ideal address for the first and last night of your trip.

Booking & Payment

From first enquiry to departure.

How do I book?

Write to us via the contact form, by email, or on WhatsApp at +241 74 40 56 05. Tell us your dates, how many people are in your group and what interests you — we'll come back with a programme and a quote.

How much does a stay cost?

The price depends on duration, camp and activities chosen. Each stay is quoted individually.

How do I pay?

Once your booking is confirmed, we send you a payment link: Visa or Mastercard, or mobile money. Bank transfer is also accepted.

Do you offer group rates?

Yes: group rates and all-inclusive packages covering accommodation, meals and activities. Pongara Lodge also has a meeting room for corporate retreats.

What are your cancellation terms?

They depend on the period and type of booking, and are set out on your quote.

On the Ground

Life at camp, day by day.

What are the rooms like?

Bungalows at Pongara, safari tents at Loango. Every room or tent has a private bathroom and terrace. At N'dola the tents are air-conditioned; at Akaka and Louri they have ceiling fans.

Is there electricity and Wi-Fi?

Yes, with charging points for phones and cameras. Sockets are European (220 V, two-pin). Wi-Fi is available in the communal areas of some camps, but the remoteness can make it slow — a good excuse to disconnect.

What is the food like?

Fresh Gabonese and international cuisine, with the catch of the day as the star. Allergies, vegetarian or gluten-free diets: let us know at the time of booking — the camps' remoteness requires a little planning ahead.

Do the guides speak English?

Our guides speak French and English. For another language, let us know at the time of booking.

Do I need to bring my own equipment?

No: binoculars, life jackets and fishing equipment are provided. You are of course welcome to bring your own.

Is it safe?

All excursions are led by experienced guides, and each camp has communication equipment and a first-aid kit.

Wildlife

What you will see, and how to see it.

What animals can I see?

Forest elephants and buffaloes, red river hogs, primates such as the red-capped mangabey, hippos, crocodiles and hundreds of bird species. In season, humpback whales offshore and sea turtles on the beaches. The animals are wild: our guides know where to look, but no one can set a fixed appointment with nature.

Is it possible to see gorillas?

Yes, at Loango, through the Loango Gorilla Project, which has tracked a family of Western lowland gorillas for years. We are the exclusive point of sale for trekking permits. Places are limited: book your permit at the same time as your stay.

Can I take part in conservation?

Yes. At Louri, a research programme run with the national parks tracks chimpanzees, gorillas and mangabeys, and guests can take part: camera trap placement, sample collection, animal monitoring.
